Essential job and Responsibilities

Performs data entry; operates a computer for record keeping and document processing to input and retrieve data in support of Departmental operations; maintains records, files, survey data and management packages; compiles reports.

Responds to inquiries from the public; answers, screens, and forwards telephone calls; greets visitors; records and relays messages and appointments as necessary; disseminates information via telephone, fax, or in hard copy; documents complaints and requests; relays messages, orders, and instructions to personnel in the field via radio communications, and responds to routine complaints. Receives, prepares, posts, records, and processes reports and/or payments, remittances, and other records according to established procedures.

May utilize a computer and applicable software, printer, scanner, multi-line phone system, calculator, and standard office equipment while performing essential functions. Copies, retrieves and distributes files, records, reports and other written materials.

Communicates with the public, other departments, vendors, suppliers, media, delivery people, various companies, organizations, professionals, and public officials while performing essential functions.Opens and distributes mail; packages and mails outgoing mail; updates bulletin boards.

Requires regular and prompt attendance plus the ability to work well with others and work well as a team.


                              Position Overview

This is routine clerical work which follows well-established procedures. Employees in this class are responsible for the performance of clerical tasks which can be readily learned by training on the job, requiring limited judgment in their execution. Detailed instructions are given at the beginning of the work and on subsequent new assignments. However, as employees become familiar with the particular procedures, they may work with independence of action on the more routine aspects of the work. Advice is given to employees on unusual problems and on new assignments by their supervisor. 

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from a standard high school. Some experience performing clerical work and data entry; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability

Some knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.

Skill in the operation of common office appliances, including computer word processing and data entry. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions as required; ability to accurately maintain simple clerical records.Ability to write legibly as required.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.

Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks readily.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; talk; or hear; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, type, and write.

The employee in this role is occasionally required to stand; walk, kneel or crouch and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and depth perception. Other Requirements

Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
